Programs to Download and Install to view GIS Data...

To download, put your cursor over the file name of the program you want to download, click the RIGHT mouse button, and click on "Save Target As" with your LEFT mouse button. This will open up a folder on your computers hard drive where the installation file will be saved. Click on "save". Then, when you are ready to install the program,  you have to navigate back to the location where you saved the installation file, and double click on it. Since the file is "zipped up", or "compressed", you have to uncompress it; this is where the program WinZip comes in, or whatever decompression software you might be using. Rather than for us to re-write the help system, please read the help system as provided in the zip software to learn how to extract the file for installation.

After you have uncompressed (extracted) the installation file, double click that file and follow all the defaults to install the program.

ArcReader is another free, easy to use mapping application from ESRI that allows users to view GIS data, and can be download at http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcreader/. This is a large file to download, weighing in at about 175 MB. If you would like to avoid the time it takes to download, please send us an e-mail at merrittjoe@hotmail.com and we can make up a CD with the installation file for $5.00.  ESRI also offers a fantastic tutorial on using ArcReader which is a must-read for anyone that wants to use the application.

ArcReader Published Data...

You can download most of our data in zipped - file format and "published" in such a way so that ArcReader can be used to view it. It's advisable that you first read the ArcReader tutorial, as mentioned above, before attempting this.

There are a number of things to learn when using our data this way; click on ArcReader to learn more and to download the data and associated files.
